Thunderbolt and Lightning
It's not quite very, very frightening, but I'm still going to make sure all my iDevices are charged up, just in case.

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be featured on Metromix?
If you haven't heard of it, it's a splashy, one-stop local entertainment guide on where to go and what to do, from the hottest restaurants and bars, to the latest in music, movies, and entertainment. And Honolulu is one of the cities fortunate to have a Metromix dedicated to our urban happenings (http://honolulu.metrmomix.com).
So normally, you find out about hip happenings, see models in model-like poses, fashionistas in the latest fashions, or even artists displaying their latest creations. And talk about attractive and hip people - or at least those confident enough to claim they are.
Except for Tuesday. For some reason there was a photo of yours truly, the same one you see above. Yes, the irony of a boring straight-arrow like me appearing on the trendy Metromix is not lost on me or anyone in my family.
But as long-time friends and new friends alike can attest, when it comes to food, that's something I can get excited about. And hopefully get others excited about. On a few occasions, I've even called myself a "foodie" - although I think "eater" could just as easily describe me. Especially when it's about my *favorite* food in the world - fried chicken.
If you haven't, you should read the article, about the Best Fried Chicken on Oahu (http://honolulu.metromix.com/restaurants/essay_photo_gallery/who-makes-the-be.... It is a well-written piece by my friend Melissa Chang (@Melissa808).
By the way Melissa, thanks for making me a celebrity at my office. I had four coworkers come ask me about the article. It really is nice to brag to them that I have connections. Especially when those connections let you partake in the food sampling.
Hey, maybe a new career is on the horizon. The only question is, "Do I charge for my services, or just take the free food?"
Mahalo!

That's right!
Originally scheduled for February 27 (http://capsun.org/2010/02/12/unconferenz-2010-is-here/), Unconferenz was postponed due to the tsunami that thankfully only measured a couple feet and was barely noticeable, except for some very visible wave movement in Hilo.
The new date is this Saturday, March 20. Remaining the same: the location (KCC), timeframe, session, and cost (a reasonable $25 that includes a t-shirt and lunch), and of course, a desire for geeks, geeks-in-training, and geek wannabes to come together in a friendly, educational, and fun environment.
I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience (http://capsun.org/2009/02/11/unconferenz-2009/) last year! Although the open grid format was a little too unstructured for my OCD ways, it's still a great event. And so, I'm excited because I can make the rescheduled date. I had a conflict with the original date, but will definitely be there on Saturday.
Seating is limited, but when I checked with Burt the other day, he did say he had space. I'm hoping he didn't mean just for me.
Click the link above, go register, and we'll see you for a really inspiring session at Unconferenz 2010 (aka Unconferenz III) on Saturday.

Here's an easy way to help support a grassroots community organization dedicated to education and community engagement, the Makiki Community Library. MCL is a separate entity from the public library system, the Hawaii State Public Library System. To operate, it must raise funds through events and opportunities like this.
Full disclosure: I recently joined the board of this non-profit organization.***

If you haven't heard already, the much-despised go! Airlines will be merging with Mokulele Airlines, where many former Aloha Airlines employees now find themselves employed.
Yesterday, KGMB9's i9News asked: "Will the merge affect what airline you choose to fly interisland? Let's get going! Flying is oober important...what's your pick?" My response: "No, I've been a loyal fan of Hawaiian Airlines for several years. Before that, I was a loyal fan of Aloha. I like to support local." My loyal and long-time readers know I have much more to say about this. I plan on doing some anti-go! posts in the near future, so please stay tuned. Mahalo! Here's my view from the cheap seats of the culturally-rich opening protocols as Bishop Museum celebrates the grand unveiling and re- opening of Hawaiian Hall.

Here's to DH, who seemed a little shy today. We even went to a nice lunch, but I was so hungry I didn't take a photo first. And I wish I could take credit for those goodies, but someone else gave her those.
If you want to see food that bad, just see the previous post.
